Romanian Association for Counseling and Support would like to inform you about organizing a

Grundtvig Workshop

“Community Organizing – a method of active involvement in the community’s life”
20 – 26/11/2011 – Baile Herculane, Romania

The target group is formed by members of organizations and institutions or adult citizens of
European countries interested in active involvement in development activities / community organizing
in their own communities – 10 participants will be selected, based on the application form attached to
the present email (also available on www.arcs.ro – download section)

The workshop aims to develop community organizers participants equally knowledge and skills
and to facilitate exchanges of experience on ways and means of development / community organizing
implemented in their own communities.

The main activities/topics of the workshop will be – Active citizenship, democracy, human rights
/ Environment, sustainable development / Volunteering.

The theme of the project is to involve citizens in community development activities / community
organizing activities in their communities. Own experiences, examples of good practice presented and
analyzed (results, methods used, participants, impact) will be the starting point in developing other
activities by the participants, as personal example is highly motivating. Need of knowing each other’s
experiences, of trying to use methods used by other participants in solving problems in the community
they come from, of promoting their success stories forms the basis for this workshop. The examples of
good practice of community development / community organization conducted at community level will
be presented by each participant in a creative way, over two days. The presentations will be alternated
with visits to organizations that have successfully carried out community development activities /
community organization in the community. After the participants will be discussed the examples
presented and the exampled visited and the method of community organizing will be preset used by
organizer in action to solve community problems, participants divided into teams will work in practical
workshops, a common material to be presented as a guide. The guide that will result will be promoted
to the communities from which participants come to increase the active involvement of citizens in
volunteer activities and community life. Moreover, we propose to create a discussion group dedicated
to individuals and organizations active in community development in the country and the EU to provide
an opportunity for exchange of views, ideas and experience, but also a starting point for future
collaborations.

The costs with transportation and accommodation will be supported by the organizer in
appliance with the Agency regulations.

Official language of the workshop will be English.
